Real Talk on Sobriety and Self-Discovery

Well, here we are. I’ve officially started a blog (even though I hate the word blog—it sounds like blah, but we’ll work with it). I’ll be sharing my thoughts, struggles, stories, and the occasional sarcastic remark about life, recovery, spirituality, and self-discovery. If you’re here, welcome! I have no idea how you found me, but I’m glad you did.

Who Am I?

I’m Rochelle—lover of humor, deep conversations, and making sense of life’s chaos. I’ve been on a journey of sobriety and self-growth for a while now. Along the way, I’ve learned that recovery isn’t one-size-fits-all. Life in general isn’t one-size-fits-all either. I stick to what keeps me grounded, I embrace what works for me, and I try not to take myself too seriously in the process.

Why “Keeping My Wits”?

When I was drinking heavily, my mom would call me and say, “Keep your wits about you.” It was her way of telling me to be careful—knowing full well I wasn’t about to stop drinking entirely. She would use this little tool especially when she knew things were tense at home with my alcoholic partner. There were very high chances that emotions would get the best of us, and we all know what happens next in those scenarios.

At the time, it was just another phrase, but in recovery, it’s taken on a whole new meaning. Keeping my wits isn’t just about staying sober; it’s about staying present, aware, and grounded in life—something I never want to lose again.

What Can You Expect Here?

  • Real Talk on Recovery & Sobriety: The highs, the lows, and the weird in-between moments.
  • Spirituality & Self-Discovery: Finding meaning, purpose, and a little peace of mind. I’m still on the lookout for that ‘Life Beyond my Wildest Dreams’ – while simultaneously ‘Trudging the Road to Happy Destiny’. And really, who isn’t?
  • Health & Wellness (With a Side of Sarcasm): I believe that recovery encompasses all aspects of health including staying physically healthy (to the best of our ability), drinking plenty of water…you know, stuff like that.
  • Humor & Honesty: Because if we can’t laugh at ourselves, what’s the point?

What’s Coming Up?

My first big adventure on here? Whole30. Yes, I’ve voluntarily signed up to give up sugar, grains, dairy, and joy (kidding… kind of). I’ll be documenting the experience, so if you’re curious about how that goes—or just want to see if I survive—you’re in the right place.

So, stick around! Subscribe, bookmark, or just check in when you need a dose of wit and real talk. Don’t print, though—that would highlight peak boomer energy. Not that we don’t love boomers, we just keep it on the DL.

I’m truly glad you’re here. KCB, you’re worth it.

— Rochelle
